A classic shoe style that it is recognised around the world as a traditional Handmade English Shoe is the brogue. Created for function, the brogue started as a humble working man’s shoe and its origins are credited to Scottish and Irish farmers at the turn of the 19th century for outdoor and country wear. The design of the brogue shoe allowed for the draining of bog water due to the perforated holes but has developed to become an iconic men's and women's shoe style worn fashionably whether it’s on the runway or in the office.
From humble beginnings as a walking shoe with decorative perforations, the modern brogue is available in several variations including the toe-cap (Full or wingtip, semi, quarter and long-wing) and closure style (Oxford shoe, Derby shoe, Ghillie and Monk shoe).
Barker shoes offer a wide range of Mens Brogues handmade at the Earls Barton factory using the Goodyear-welted construction which was invented in 1869 by Charles Goodyear Jr., the son of Charles Goodyear.
